Carl R. Falk Jr., 79Shrewsbury – Carl R. Falk Jr., 79, died Saturday July 16, 2011, in UMass Memorial Medical Center-University Campus after a sudden illness. His wife of 50 years, Beverly J. (Sampson) Falk, died in 2006.

He leaves two sons, William R. Falk of Shrewsbury and Carl R. Falk III, of Austin, Texas; two sisters, Carolyn Hagberg of Boylston and Nancy Dyer of Florida; and many nieces and nephews.

Born and raised in Worcester, the son of the late Carl R. Falk, Sr. and Helga (Sjostrom) Falk, he graduated from Commerce High School in Worcester and then entered the United States Navy, where he served his country proudly during the Korean War. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Association.

Mr. Falk had worked for AstraZeneca in both Worcester and Westborough for 45 years before retiring in 2000. After retiring, he was the primary caregiver to his wife, Beverly, for five years before her death in 2006.

He loved to travel and, in the past five years of his life, had traveled extensively around the world. He also loved the sun, and frequently visited the beaches of Maine, Florida and Aruba.

Relatives and friends are invited to visit with the Falk family Tuesday July 19, from 5 to 7 p.m., in the Britton-Shrewsbury Funeral Home, 648 Main St., Shrewsbury. His funeral will be celebrated Wednesday July 20, at
10 a.m., in Mount Olivet Lutheran Church, 34 Prospect St., Shrewsbury. Burial will follow in Mountain View Cemetery of Shrewsbury.
