Worcester Heat Softball wins first ASA Tournament

Region – The Worcester Heat 12-U girls softball team won its first championship, beating the Chelmsford Blue Crush June 19. The Heat scored quickly in the first inning and never looked back. They scored 3 additional runs in the 4th inning and closed the game out in a decisive fashion with 4 more runs in the 5th, to win the game 8–0. The Heat finished with a 5–0–1 record when play concluded that afternoon.

The team, based out of Hit Quarters in Shrewsbury, consists of these players from the following communities: Ally Rota, Molly Reilly and Erica Ross of Westborough; Kirstin DeVries and Madison Tatten of Northborough; Hannah Sullivan and Gabrielle Montoya of Shrewsbury; Abigail Gilbert, Isabelle Holden, Courtney Hassan and Heather Holly of Hopkinton; Kiley Hennessey of Leicester; Katelyn Koller of Hopedale; and Rylee Hehir of Putnam.

The victory marks the first ever ASA Championship for the Worcester Heat Softball program. Team coaches are head coach Greg Rota, assistant coach Bob DeVries, and bench coaches Jim Sullivan, Don Koehler, Chris Hehir and Kevin Tatten.
