John I. Winmill, 73Northborough – John I. Winmill, 73, died Tuesday Aug. 2, 2011, surrounded by his loving family, at UMass Memorial Healthcare (University Campus) in Worcester.

He leaves his wife of 34 years, Rosemarie C. (Steel) Winmill; three sons, Jeff Winmill of Southborough, Todd Winmill of Los Angeles, Calif., and John Morrison and his wife Carrie of Bellingham; two daughters, Kimberly Sealey and her husband Steven of Lakeland, Fla. and Denise Mealey of South Boston; eight grandchildren, Caitlin and Kevin Sealey, James, Marissa and Michael Mealey, Kellie and Haylee Morrison, and Emily Patten; one brother, William Winmill and his wife Carol of Pembroke; and three nieces. He was predeceased by his son, David Winmill, who died in 2006.

Born in Boston and raised in Roslindale and West Roxbury, he was the son of the late Ivers E. and Helen L. (Gillig) Winmill. He was a graduate from Roslindale High School and graduated from Northeastern University in 1963.

Mr. Winmill worked for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers in Concord and Ft. Devens for 35 years, retiring in 2011 as the N.E. Area Engineer. He served as a captain in the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers during the Vietnam War and was stationed there and in Germany.

He was a member of American Legion Post #234. He enjoyed gardening, camping, spending time with his grandchildren and vacationing on Cape Cod.

Calling hours will be held Sunday Aug. 7, from 4 to 7 p.m., in Hays Funeral Home, 56 Main St., Northborough. The funeral service will be held Monday Aug. 8, at 11 a.m., in the Church of Nativity, 45 Howard St.. (Please go directly to church). Burial will follow in Howard Street Cemetery.
