Marlborough – Dorothy (Waring) Callahan, 95, died Monday Aug. 8, 2011, at New Horizons in Marlborough.
Born in Cambridge, she was the daughter of the late Francis A. and Mary (Gill) Waring and the wife of the late Francis P. Callahan, who died in 1974. Following high school, she attended Fisher Business College.
Mrs. Callahan had been employed as a Secretary for the Social Security Administration, Quincy. After her retirement in 1980, she moved to St. Petersburg Beach, Fla., where, for the next 27 years, she spent time at the beach, swimming and enjoying the companionship of her sister Rae and many friends. In April 2007 she returned to Massachusetts to be near her family.
Knowledgeable in financial affairs, she followed the stock market daily, and was involved in many social activities including bingo and card games.
She is survived by her sons, James Callahan and his wife Susan of Chelmsford and Daniel Callahan of Weymouth; her daughters, Sheila Callahan and her longtime companion Bob Martin of E. Weymouth and Patricia Lange and her husband Arthur Paul Lange Jr. of Marlborough; her grandchildren, Lisa, Gailyn, Christopher, Rachel and Christine; and her great-granddaughter, Gabriella, who gave her much joy.
A funeral Mass will be celebrated Thursday Aug. 11, at 11 a.m., at the Chapel of the Sisters of the Good Shepherd, 400 Hemenway St., Marlborough. Visiting hours will be held Wednesday Aug. 10, from 4 to 7 p.m., at the Slattery Funeral Home, Inc., 40 Pleasant St., Marlborough. Burial will be private.
