Shrewsbury – George K. deSourdis, 87, passed away Tuesday Aug. 9, 2011, at St. Vincent's Hospital with his devoted family by his side. His wife of 53 years, Ruth H. (Mongeon) deSourdis, passed away May 5, 2011.
He is survived by his son, Jason deSourdis of Shrewsbury; a step-son, Walter Goodrich and his wife Kaye of North Carolina; a step-daughter, Donna Barton and her husband Richard of Mount Dora, Fla.; four step-grandchildren, Joshua and Sara Goodrich, Rachel and Scott Barton; two step-great grandchildren, Emily and Brooke Goodrich; two sisters: Jacqueline Moore of Auburn and Marilyn Collela of Worcester; and many nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by two brothers, Paul and Robert deSourdis, and two sisters, Jean Davis and Eloise Curl.
Born in Worcester, a son of the late George O. and Lillian F. (Liberty) deSourdis, he was a graduate a Commerce High School. He later moved to Shrewsbury where he rsided for 43 years.
Mr. deSourdis worked for over 30 years as a postal clerk for the U.S. Postal Service before his retirement. He was a member of the former Fairlawn Methodist Church where he taught Sunday school for 25 years. He was an avid Red Sox Fan and loved to read. He was quiet and simple and will be greatly missed by his family and friends.
Services will be held privately and at the convenience of the family. Mercadante Funeral Home & Chapel of Worcester is assisting the family with arrangements. In honor of Mr. deSourdis” memory, contributions may be made to your local Salvation Army.
