Westborough/Boylston – Kathleen “Kay” (Lynch) Mitchell, 76, passed away Tuesday Aug. 9, 2011, after a long illness at the home of her daughter Paula Markle, with whom she lived. Her husband of 44 years, Paul C. Mitchell, died in 2000.

Mrs. Mitchell, a lifelong resident of Westborough, was born July 10, 1935, to George and Roselma (Tetreault) Lynch. She was a 1953 graduate of Westborough High School and a 1954 graduate of Salter Secretarial School.

She worked many years at Westborough Nursing Home and for the Westborough School Department. She was a member of St. Luke's Church and the Westborough Senior Center. In 2009, she moved in with her daughter Paula and her family in Boylston.

Mrs. Mitchell enjoyed cooking, sewing, crafting, playing cards and board games. She loved hosting holiday parties and Sunday dinners for her family, and also enjoyed vacationing in Maine or on Cape Cod. She always said that her greatest joy in life was raising her six children. She was a very kind, generous person who was always available to help those in need whether cooking meals, driving to doctor appointments or just being there to talk.

She leaves a son, Paul Mitchell of Attleboro, and four daughters, Paula Markle and her husband David of Boylston, Maureen Mitchell Ravenelle and her husband Rene of East Brookfield, Kathleen Mitchell of Worcester, and Christine Gaffney and her husband Stephen of Worcester. She also leaves eight grandchildren, Laura and Brian Markle, Ashley and Megan Ravenelle, Julie Mitchell, and Daniel, Sean and Erin Gaffney; her sister, Marylou Giorgi and her husband Charlie of Shrewsbury; a brother, George Lynch and his wife Beverly of Kennebunk, Maine; her cousins, Shirley and Roderick Lynch both of Westborough; and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a daughter, Eileen Mitchell, in 2007.

Her funeral Mass will be celebrated Friday Aug. 12, at 10:30 a.m., in St. Luke the Evangelist Church, 70 West Main St., Westborough. Burial will follow in St. Luke's Cemetery. There are no calling hours.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations be made to either UMass Memorial Hospice, 333 South St., 4th Fl., Shrewsbury, MA 01545 or Elder Services of Worcester Area Inc, 411 Chandler St, Worcester MA 01602. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Rand-Harper-Pickering Westborough Funeral Home, 62 West Main St.
