One dead in I-495 crash in Westborough after backhoe falls off trailer

A woman believed to be in her 60's was killed in a fatal accident on I-495 Thursday afternoon when a backhoe fell off a trailer and landed on her van, boston.com reports. A 42 year-old woman and two children were also injured in the accident.

The crash occurred at 1:15 on I-495 south, outside exit 23c, bostonherald.com reports.

Victims were taken to the University of Massachusetts medical center for treatment. The 42 year old woman was airlifted to Umass medical center, and the two children were taken by ambulance, according to the boston.com report.

The driver of the truck carrying the backhoe, Jeffrey Fischer, was not injured, according to telegramandgazette.com.

“The crash remains under investigation by Troop C of the Massachusetts State Police with the assistance of the State Police Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Section, the State Police Commercial Motor Vehicle Enforcement Section and the State Police Crime Scene Services Section,” the report said.
