Hudson – Manuel Moura, 83, died Tuesday Aug. 23, 2011, at UMass Memorial Healthcare, University Campus in Worcester. He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Beatriz de Chaves Graca Moura of Hudson.
Born and raised in Santa Maria, the Azores in Portugal, he was son of the late Bernardino and Maria Jacinta (Bairos) Moura, and had resided in Hudson since 1974.
Mr. Moura was employed by the Data General Co. for many years until his retirement. He was a member of Saint Michael's Parish in Hudson.
He enjoyed spending the summer months at his house in Santa Maria, where he was proud of his flower garden which he cared for and enjoyed. He also enjoyed cooking and spending the holidays with family and friends. He especially looked forward to Christmas when he would play the part of Santa Claus for his loving family. He was very proud of his family, and his grandchildren and great-grandchildren brought tremendous joy to him. They will remember him for his great sense of humor.
Besides his wife, he is survived by his children, Fatima Sousa, Mario Moura, Paulo Moura, Eduardo Moura, Carlos Moura, Joao Moura, Nelia Chaves, Margarida Bairos, Jose Manuel Moura, all of Hudson, and was predeceased by his daughter, Marta Moura, at her birth. He is also survived by his siblings, Jose Moura of Hudson, Maria Moura of Hudson, Joao Moura of Canada, Jose Maria Moura of Canada, Agostinho Moura of Canada, Ermelinda Chaves of Santa Maria; 21 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; and many in-laws, nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brother, Antonio Moura.
A funeral Mass will be celebrated Thursday Aug. 25, at 9 a.m., in Saint Michael's Church, 21 Manning St., Hudson. Burial will follow in Saint Michael's Cemetery of Hudson. Calling hours will be held Wednesday Aug. 24, from 4 to 7 p.m., at the Tighe-Hamilton Funeral Home, Inc., 50 Central St., Hudson, MA 01749.
