First Church (Marlborough) welcomes new pastorMarlborough – First Church in Marlborough (Congregational) recently announced that Rev. Kazimierz Bem (“Pastor Kaz”) has joined its staff. Church officials believe that the new pastor's “energy, honesty, sense of humor, compassion and spirituality will bring the Bible alive [for all ages] in an innovative way.”

Bem was born in Poland and has traveled extensively throughout the world, including Kuwait and the Netherlands, where he obtained his doctorate of law, specializing in refugee law. There, he accepted his call for the ministry, and in May of 2011, he graduated from Yale University with a master's degree in theology and divinity. Bem won the Mersick Prize in 2010 for effective public address, and for the last three years has served as student pastor at the Center Church in New Haven, Conn.

The church holds worship services every Sunday, with the new pastor beginning Sept. 4 at 10 a.m. (with nursery coverage). Sunday school registration takes place Sept. 4 and 11, with classes commencing Sept. 11 for preschoolers through eighth grade.
