Marlborough – Margaret Carey Callahan, 80, died Thursday, Sept. 1, 2011 at Marlborough Hospital after a prolonged illness. She was the wife of the late Robert W. Callahan, who died in 2002.

She leaves her children, Dennis J. Callahan and his wife Maureen of Milford, Carey R. Callahan of Marlborough, Patricia C. Nee and her husband Patrick of Northborough, Daniel W. Callahan and his wife Molly of Marlborough, and Brenda C. Estella and her husband Jeffrey of Southborough. She also leaves 11 grandchildren, April Shay, Kevin Callahan, Stephanie Callahan, Michael Callahan, Matthew Callahan, Maggie Callahan, Samantha Nee, Jeremiah Callahan, Michael Nee, Ryan Estella and Cameron Estella, and four great-grandchildren, Zaphila Shay, Brianna Affeldt, Zavannah Affeldt and Chelbe Affeldt. She is the beloved sister of: John Carey, Jeremiah Carey, Edmund Carey, Jimmy Carey, Hannah Griffin, Mary Doyle, and Kitty O’Donnell.

Born in Mitchelstown, County Cork, Ireland, she was daughter of the late Jeremiah and Hannah Carey. She was a professional seamstress and lived in the Marlborough area for over 50 years.

Mrs. Callahan was a member of the Immaculate Conception Church and a member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the A.O.H. She was well versed in politics, enjoyed summers at the lake with family, but, most of all, she loved to cook for and care for her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

The family would like to give a special thank you to all of the staff and care givers at Marlborough Hospital for the care and attention they gave to Mrs. Callahan.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, Sept. 7, at 10 a.m., from the John P. Rowe Funeral Home Inc., 57 Main St., Marlborough, with a Mass at 11 a.m. in the Immaculate Conception Church, 11 Prospect St., Marlborough. Burial will follow in the Immaculate Conception Cemetery of Marlborough. Calling hours at the funeral home are Tuesday, Sept. 6, from 4 to 8 p.m.
