William L. Farrell Jr., 87Marlborough – William L. Farrell Jr., 87, died Sunday, Aug. 28, 2011, at Marlborough Hospital following a period of declining health. He was the husband of the late Barbara E. (French) Farrell, who died March 31, 2011.

He is survived by his daughter, Marjorie L. Farrell, and his son, Michael G. Farrell and his wife, Diana, both of Marlborough; a sister, Barbara T. Hanley of Marlborough; and six grandchildren, Lauren Hurley and Jeremy, Tiffany, Jonathan, Sean and Meghan Farrell; two great-granddaughters, Abigail and Rebecca; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Born in Worcester, son of the late William L. and Laura (Hobbs) Farrell Sr., he had lived in Marlborough all his life. He was a 1941 graduate of Marlborough High School and later earned his business degree from Bentley College. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, reaching the rank of staff sergeant, and serving in the American Theater and the Asiatic Theater of War.

Over the years, Mr. Farrell was employed as an accountant by Andy Bernbaum Auto Parts, Callahan's Restaurant and the Irving Levitt Company. He was also a former Little League coach in the Marlborough Youth Baseball Association.

A funeral service will take place Tuesday, Sept. 6, at 10 a.m., at the John P. Rowe Funeral Home Inc., 57 Main St., Marlborough. Burial with military honors will follow in Evergreen Cemetery of Marlborough. A time of visitation will take place Tuesday, from 9 to 10 a.m., prior to the service, at the funeral home.
