Should communities “cell” out?

Region – With the advent of advanced telecommunications, cellular and cable companies need to find places to install their equipment. Towns, of course, need to find additional ways to raise revenue. That's why many communities are looking to partner with companies and rent space to them on town-owned infrastructures.

Westborough is currently seeking a Request for Proposal for cell companies to rent space on one of its water towers. But sometimes towns balk, such as the case in Southborough, where the community recently turned down a request from AT&T to increase the size of a flagpole that has one of the company's cables inside it.
