Shrewsbury – Mary H. (Hogan) Lento, 77, died Wednesday, Sept. 7, 2011 in UMass Memorial Medical Center- University Campus after a long illness.
She leaves her loving and devoted husband of 58 years, Patrick W. Lento; two sons; William J. Lento and his wife, Lina, of West Barnstable and Darren P. Lento of Worcester; three daughters, Sandra J. Carton of Falmouth, Laurann Black and Wesley Hicks of Waltham, and Denise M. Lento and Curtis Claymont of New York City; a sister, Dorothy Cardinale of Marlborough; three grandchildren, Mykel, Anglea and Cathy; and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a brother, Daniel Hogan.
Born in Boston and raised in a lovely Brighton neighborhood, she was the daughter of the late Daniel and Laura (Kelly) Hogan. She graduated from Our Lady of Presentation High School in Brighton.
Mrs. Lento was a staunch advocate for children with special needs and their families. She particularly liked working with autistic children since her son, Darren, is autistic. She spent many hours volunteering and collecting for several charities.
She was a faithful member of Saint Mary's Parish in Shrewsbury, and enjoyed spending time with friends and family and traveling to Cape Cod.
Relatives and friends are invited to visit with the Lento family Friday, Sept. 9, from 4 to 7 p.m., in the Britton Funeral Home, 648 Main St., Shrewsbury. Her funeral will be held from the funeral home Saturday, Sept. 10, with a funeral Mass celebrated at 10 a.m. in Saint Mary's Church, 640 Main St., Shrewsbury. Burial will follow in Mountain View Cemetery of Shrewsbury.
