Shrewsbury – The 7th annual “Scarecrows on the Common” contest and display, sponsored by the Shrewsbury Garden Club, will take place Friday, Sept. 30, through Friday, Oct. 21. Shrewsbury residents, businesses and clubs are invited to create a scarecrow to be displayed on the Town Common. Awards and certificates will be given out in several categories. Again this year, there will be no entry fee; however, participants are asked to fill out and send in an entry form. The deadline for entry is Friday, Sept. 23.
The Garden Club is also sponsoring the “Light the Spirit” Jack-O-Lantern display celebrating community spirit Sept. 30 (rain or shine). Residents, businesses and clubs are invited to bring a carved pumpkin ready to be lit to the stone wall of the Public Library along Main Street between 6 and 7 p.m. (candles will not be supplied). A public viewing of the lit Jack-O-Lanterns will take place between 7 and 8 p.m. All Jack-O-Lanterns must be removed by 8:30.
