Shrewsbury – Although digital technology is rapidly changing the way we consume information, many believe that a town's support of its library speaks volumes about a community's commitment to culture and education.
Recently, plans for a major expansion and renovation of the Shrewsbury Library were bolstered when officials with the state's Board of Library Commissioners announced that Shrewsbury would be eligible to receive approximately $8 million of the nearly $18 million required for the project in fiscal year 2015.
The next step will be convincing fellow residents to approve a debt exclusion to fund the remaining $10.5 million needed to fund the project. Voters must approve that measure at a Special Town Meeting, which will be held Monday, Sept. 26, and then on the ballot when a special election is held Tuesday, Oct. 18.
