Shrewsbury – Beatrice A. (Head) Johnson Nelson, 100, died Friday, Sept. 20, 2011 at the Saint Vincent Hospital of Worcester. Her husband of 29 years, Lloyd G. Nelson, died in 1999. Her first husband of 29 years, Philip E. Johnson, died in 1965.
She leaves her daughter, Carol L. Jewers of Shrewsbury; her two grandsons, Robert E. Jewers Jr. of Auburn and William P. Jewers and his wife Michelle of Bellingham; her sister-in-law, Margaret Head of Shrewsbury; five great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her brother, Joseph Head, and by her sister, Isabelle Walsh.
Born and raised in Worcester, a daughter of the late T. Joseph and Joanna (Lawlor) Head, she had lived in Shrewsbury for 64 years. She graduated from Commerce High School and Becker Junior College.
Mrs. Nelson spent many years as a homemaker, and then later became the head bookmobile librarian for the Town of Shrewsbury for 13 years, before retiring. She was an avid reader and loved the years she spent in her home by Lake Quinsigamond. She was a member of Our Lady of Lourdes Parish in Worcester.
The family would like to thank the staff of the Life Care Center of Auburn for the loving care shown to Mrs. Nelson during her stay there.
A funeral Mass for Beatrice will be celebrated Wednesday, Oct. 5, at 11 a.m., in Our Lady of Lourdes Church, 1250 Grafton St., Worcester. Following cremation, burial at Mountain View Cemetery of Shrewsbury will be private. The Britton-Shrewsbury Funeral Home is assisted with arrangements.
