Area Democrats to Host U.S. Senate Candidate Alan KhazeiWestborough – U.S. Senate candidate Alan Khazei will be meeting with area voters on Oct.18 at a forum hosted by the Westborough, Shrewsbury, Grafton, Northborough, Southborough, Hopkinton and Ashland Democratic Town Committees (DTCs).

The meeting will be held at 7 p.m. in the Community Room at Tatnuck Booksellers, 18 Lyman Street,Westborough. This is the third in a series of events sponsored by the DTCs featuring U.S. Senate candidates.

Kate Donaghue, chair of the Westborough DTC, said, “The first forums were very well attended. Voters have been very interested in the opportunity to hear from people who are running for U.S. Senate. We have had people from more than a dozen communities attend events. Our format allows for real interaction between the candidates and voters.”

Khazei co-founded City Year, a national urban peace corps, and Be the Change, Inc., a non-profit organization dedicated to building coalitions for public policy change. He worked closely with President Bill Clinton to create AmeriCorps, the national service program whose inspiration was City Year, and with Senator Edward Kennedy to craft and pass the Kennedy Serve America Act. Khazei is an advocate for social justice and was been named one of the Best 25 Leaders in America by U.S. News in 2006.

Susan Ruane, Chairman of the Southborough Democratic Town Committee, said, “We are really looking forward to hearing Mr. Khazei. I’ve been very impressed with the quality of Democrats who are running for U. S. Senate.”

Jason Palitsch, Chair of the Shrewsbury Democratic Town Committee, said, “Interest in the Senate race is increasing. Democrats are getting excited about 2012, and that's being reflected through the increased attention our Senate candidates are receiving.”

In addition to hearing the candidates, voters who are interested in getting involved will have an opportunity to talk informally with officers from area Democratic committees.
