Southborough – Take advantage of the warm, sunny forecast this weekend and enjoy the sights, sounds and activities of the town of Southborough's annual Heritage Day celebration. The two-day festival will be held Sunday, Oct. 9 and Monday, Oct. 10.
The Oct. 9 schedule includes the start of the Heritage Day Road Race at 10 a.m. at Trottier School, a Historical Society Museum Open House from 2 to 6 p.m., Light Up Southborough from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m., pumpkin drop-off in front of Southborough Library, and the pumpkin lighting and viewing front 7 to 8:30 p.m. on Common Street.
Events and activities for Oct. 10 include vendor set up on St. Mark's field (corner of Routs 30 and 85) from 7 to 9:30 a.m., vendors opening at 9:30 a.m., parade line up at St. Anne's Church (contact the Recreation Office at 1-508-229-4452 to find out about participating), the Friends of Southborough Library book and cookie sale from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., the start of the Heritage Day Parade at 10 a.m., DJs Rick Scott and Charlie Pim from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., a magician performance in the gazebo area from 10:30 to 10:45 a.m., and an Open House at the Fire Department from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. The day will be rounded out by the SkyRise Children's Theater performance of “Magic Wings” at 1 p.m. in the gazebo area, a luncheon at the Community House ($7 adults/children and $6 senior citizens) from 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m., a magician performance at the Community House from 11:30 a.m. to 12 p.m., the 5th annual pie eating contest, sponsored by Fay School, at 2 p.m., and the close of Heritage Day at 3:30 p.m.
Heritage Day Road Race
The 35th annual Heritage Day Road Race starts at 10 a.m. at Trottier Middle School, 49 Parkerville Rd., with registration from 8 to 10 a.m. The entry fee is $25 day of race and $10 for walkers. The first 25 to register the day of the race will receive a T-shirt.
Prizes for first place will be awarded to men and women in the 18 and under, 19 to 24, 25 to 29, 30 to 39, 40 to 49, 50 to 59, and 60 and over categories. The top three walkers (male and female), will also receive awards. The day also includes raffle prizes, gift baskets, refreshments and water for the participants.
Friends of the Southborough Library cookie and book sale
Monday, Oct. 10, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., the Southborough Library will hold a book and cookie sale during the Heritage Day celebration.
Southborough Library Teens are coordinating the cookie sale this year in conjunction with the Friends of the Library book sale. New this year, three local authors will have a table at the book sale and offer their latest work for sale. A portion of the proceeds will benefit the library.
Residents interested in baking cookies for the sale can drop them off Saturday, Oct. 8, any time from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., or early on Heritage Day, Monday, Oct. 10 at the library. Also, the Friends of the Library are still accepting donations of gently used books up to Friday, Oct. 7 for the book sale.
