GEEK Your Library! Dewey Day Oct. 23 at Shrewsbury Public LibraryShrewsbury – Sunday, Oct. 23, from 1 to 3 p.m., is Dewey Day at the Shrewsbury Public Library. Stop by the library to see what folks in the community “geek” (have a passion for). Using the categories of the Dewey Decimal System, the library will come alive with exciting presentations, performances, and demonstrations, offering something for everyone.

Some of the “mini-events” that have been scheduled throughout the library include Gems (553.8), Genealogy (929.1), Woodworking (684.16), Photography (770), Water Colors (751.422), Quilting (746.46), Basket Making (746.412), Cooking (641.5), Kayaking (797.122), Flower Arranging (745.92), Languages (400), Local Author (813), Beading (745.58), History Buffs (900), Cheeses (637.3), Tinsmithing (745.56) and more. In addition, there will be a Balloon Animal artist (797.5) handing out his creations to the younger folks and Mother Goose (398.2) will be visiting and telling stories to the young and the young-at-heart.

Dewey Day is the kick-off event for our “GEEK Your Library” series. By now, most people have probably seen the word “geek” used extensively in the library's most recent newsletter. But, what does “geek” really mean? The dictionary states: “1. To love, to enjoy, to celebrate, to have an intense passion for. 2. To express an interest in. 3. To possess a large amount of knowledge in. 4. To promote.”

The basic concept is that whatever you “geek” (that is, whatever you have a passion for), the library can support you. Are you passionate about woodworking… or gardening… or genealogy… or leisure reading… or learning a new language… or developing your computer skills… or reading to your children or your grandchildren… or… whatever! The library has resources to support you in all these endeavors.

Dewey Day is free and open to all people of all ages. For more information about this (or any other “GEEK Your Library” events), call Shrewsbury Public Library at 1-508-842-0081.
