Westborough – On Sept. 17, 54 gymnasts, ages 5 to 48, who train at the Massachusetts Gymnastics Center (MGC) in Westborough, helped break a world record for most handstands held simultaneously. The event, which was sponsored by USA Gymnastics to promote National Gymnastics Day, featured 20,498 gymnasts throughout the country kicking up at the same time to beat the previous record set by Australian gymnasts in 2005.

Leo Doran is a partner and vice president of operations at MGC.

“MGC was happy to collaborate with USA Gymnastics and gyms across the country to break the world record for simultaneous handstands,” he said. “It gave the children at all of our locations and all levels an opportunity to feel a part of a national event. The kids were excited to potentially get to the world record book. Anytime that we get an opportunity to promote our sport, we want to be a part of it.”

MGC also has locations in five other Massachusetts communities.
