Hudson – The Board of Selectmen addressed personnel matters ranging from the resignation of a Hudson police officer to honoring new Eagle scouts at its Oct. 17 meeting.
“This is a bittersweet item,” the board's Chair, James Vereault, said regarding the resignation of Hudson police officer Michael MacDonald. “Michael has been accepted into State Police training. We lose a great man; the State Police pick up a great man.”
The 200 new cadets undergoing training were vetted from a test pool of around 11,000 candidates, Vereault said.
In other business, Vereault noted, “We have two wonderful proclamations before us tonight. I believe only one of us on the board is an Eagle Scout.”
Selectman Charles McGourty, who became an Eagle Scout 41 years ago, read proclamations addressed to Brian Niemi and Sterling Reber IV for their attainment of the Eagle Scout Badge of Honor.
This designation is the Boy Scouts of America's highest honor. The proclamations noted it was “no ordinary achievement” that the boys had received this rank.
In other business, the selectmen approved the reappointment of Christopher Sandini for another three-year term as town accountant and the appointment of Linda Ventura to the Hudson Cultural Council for a three-year term. The selectmen also cast by absentee ballot their selections for eight seats on the Boston Metropolitan Planning Organization.
Other action taken by the board included acceptance of a donation from the employees of the Murphy Insurance Agency to the Student Awareness of Fire Education Program, and the signing of a Compliance Certificate issued in conjunction with the sale of Unit 310 located at 250 Main St. at fair market value.
