Shrewsbury Senior Center to host Nov 3 flu clinic for seniorsShrewsbury – The Shrewsbury Senior Center will be hosting a Flu Vaccination Clinic Thursday, Nov. 3, from 9 a.m. to noon. The clinic, hosted in conjunction with Walgreens and the Shrewsbury Board of Health, will be open to Shrewsbury senior citizens only. Proof of insurance is required upon registration.

Every year in the United States, on average between 5 to 20 percent of the population contract the influenza “flu” virus. More than 200,000 are hospitalized from flu complications and about 36,000 die from the virus.

“Within our population, the elderly and those with chronic medical conditions are at highest risk of influenza infection and its complications,” stated Derek Brindisi, Director of Public Health. “We are strongly encouraging the senior population to take advantage of the clinic this year. Complications of flu can include bacterial pneumonia, ear infections, sinus infections, dehydration, and worsening of chronic medical conditions, such as congestive heart failure, asthma, or diabetes.”
