George R. Smith, 91Westborough – George R. Smith, 91, passed away peacefully Wednesday, Oct. 26, 2011 at the Westborough Healthcare Center. He was the husband of Beatrice L. (Boulay) Smith.

Born in Worcester, the son of the late George F. and Evelyn (Ellstrom) Smith, he was educated in Worcester schools. During World War II, he served with the U.S. Navy, attaining the rank of Gunner's Mate, First Class.

Mr. Smith was employed as a steelworker for U.S. Steel in Worcester prior to his retirement. He was an avid golfer and a former member of the Westborough Country Club.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by two sons, Bruce R. Smith of Abbot, Maine and Alan G. Smith of Haines City, Fla.; one daughter, Carol L. Negoshian of Haines City, Fla.; a niece, Ellen Kilmer, and a nephew, Richard Kilmer, both of Worcester; seven grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren. He was the brother of the late Carol Kilmer.

His funeral service will be held Friday, Oct. 28, at 10 a.m., in the Rand-Harper-Pickering Westborough Funeral Home, 62 West Main St., Westborough. Burial, with military honors, will follow in Worcester County Memorial Park of Paxton. There are no calling hours.
