Officials “push” for new vehiclesWestborough – In these fiscally challenging times, town officials often find themselves in the hot seat trying to justify additional capital expense requests for certain items. This was the case at the Oct. 17 Westborough Special Town Meeting when voters challenged officials on why they should approve funding for three new vehicles. Some voters believe that if they have to drive outdated cars and trucks themselves, then why shouldn's town workers do the same?

Officials countered that some of the town's vehicles are held together with makeshift parts, need expensive repairs or are at the very end of their functionality. Pictures of the failing vehicles were shown to stress their deteriorating condition. In the end, voters approved $102,000 to purchase the three requested vehicles.
