Shrewsbury – The Shrewsbury Public Library is now holding an amnesty period throughout the month of November to benefit the World War I Memorial Project.
During this time, no new fines will be charged for late items. Furthermore, all who come into the library during this period can have any older fines still on their card wiped out. Not included in this amnesty, however, are charges for replacement of lost or damaged library materials.
In lieu of fines, library users are encouraged to make voluntary contributions to benefit the World War I Memorial Project. Checks can be made out to “Victor Quaranta Post 397.”
The old World War I memorial in front of Beale School has deteriorated beyond simple repair, and a new monument is needed to replace it. Local veteran groups have banded together to raise the money for this project, and this year's book fine amnesty at the library is an opportunity for all to participate.
