Westborough – James Renwick Common, 90, Massachusetts died peacefully at home Thursday, Nov. 3, 2011.
He was born Aug. 18, 1921 in Buffalo, New York and graduated from Columbia University with a degree in engineering. He was married April 19, 1947 to Margaret Hegeman, who died in 2004.
Mr. Common was an avid outdoorsman and rowed stroke on a championship crew while at Columbia, which won the Bouvier Cup for Columbia, a feat not since repeated. He served in the 21st Weather Squadron, Ninth Air Force in the Army in the European theatre.
He is survived by his daughter, Jane Plummer and her husband Morgan Plummer of Westborough; his son, William Common and his wife Michelle of Greenwich, Conn.; and four loving grandchildren, Molly Cook, James Common, Andrew Plummer and Leah Common.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, Nov. 26, at 1 p.m., at the Rand-Harper-Pickering Westborough Funeral Home, 62 West Main St., Westborough.
