Westborough – Edward H. O’Brien, Jr., 63, formerly of Marlborough, ended his valiant battle against cancer Sunday, Nov. 13, 2011, surrounded by his family, at Mass General Hospital in Boston.

He leaves his wife of 36 years, Linda M. (Boisse) O’Brien; a daughter, Christina M. O’Brien of Southbridge; and a son, Edward H. O’Brien III of Westborough. He also leaves a granddaughter, Alexis R. O’Brien of Southbridge; two sisters, Carol L. Rosenau and her husband Douglas of Marlborough and Maureen B. Hall and her husband Ray of Aloha, Or.; his uncle, Stephen C. O’Brien of York, Maine; and nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by his sister, Judith E. Regonini, and his second father, Michael A. Mantino.

Born in Marlborough, son of the late Edward H. and Hazel G. (Taylor) O’Brien, he attended Marlborough High School and had lived in Westborough for the past 16 years.

Mr. O”Brien was employed by Digital Corp. of Westminister for 10 years as supervisor and manager of the Shipping and Receiving Department. He previously was employed for many years as a heavy equipment operator for SCOB Trucking Co. of Marlborough.

He was an avid sport enthusiast who was able to recall the slightest detail of any significant sporting event, and enjoyed reading all of the daily newspapers from front to back and doing all of the puzzles. He loved to play cribbage and enjoyed all types of music, remembering all of the fun times they had as a family, vacationing for over 30 years at Sands Motel on York Beach, Maine.

Facing his own battle against cancer, he would devotedly twice a day visit his sweetheart at the nursing home for the past three years.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, Nov. 17, at 10 a.m., in the Church of the Nativity, 45 Howard St., Northborough. Burial to follow in Evergreen Cemetery of Marlborough. Calling hours are Wednesday, Nov. 16, from 4 to 8 p.m., at the John P. Rowe Funeral Home Inc., 57 Main St., Marlborough.
