Celebration of Living Gifts at Overlook Farm in Rutland

35

Rutland – Families can enjoy a special farm day and get the chance to help real farmers around the world Saturday, Dec. 3, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Learn how buying a goat, llama or water buffalo for one hungry family can help end hunger and poverty at Heifer International's Celebration of Living Gifts held at Overlook Farm, 216 Wachusett St. in Rutland.

Visitors can enjoy a winter hayride in the Global Village, and immerse themselves in the sights, sounds and smells of cultures from all corners of the world. Stop in one of the villages for some seasonal craft-making fun, and then to warm up, enjoy an old-fashioned New England treat: chestnuts roasting on an open fire.

At the Living Gift Market, learn about Heifer gifts that keep on giving, and take the opportunity to give an animal gift on behalf of a loved one. You will receive a handsome card to give away, but more importantly, a hungry family will receive hope for a better future. You can also find unique fair-trade items from around the world at Shop@Heifer, along with Heifer books and merchandise. You can even purchase cuts of beef and lamb raised right on Overlook Farm.

Enjoy hot cocoa, cider, baked goods and hearty home-made soups. Children will even have the chance to decorate and eat their own animal gingerbread cookies! There is no admission charge; instead, please bring canned goods to be donated to the Worcester County Food Bank.
