Westborough – Helen V. Gerden, 90, died Sunday, Nov. 20, 2011 at the Memorial Hospital in Worcester.

Born in Cambridge, she was the daughter of the late Carl and Ellen (Christenson) Gerden. She was raised and educated in Westborough and graduated from the Hahnemann Hospital School of Nursing. She furthered her education by earning a Bachelor of Science Degree at Clark University.

Ms. Gerden was employed as a registered nurse at Hahnemann Hospital for 42 years prior to her retirement. She was a member of the Congregational Church of Westborough, the National Nurses Association, enjoyed gardening and getting together with her family.

She is survived by one sister, Margaret K. Roche and her husband Richard of Westborough, and her nephews and nieces, Richard C. Roche Jr., Helen Race and her husband Richard, Ann-Britt Hoover and her husband Robert, Carl A. Roche and his wife Kim, and Caren Wilds. She is also survived by many grandnieces and grandnephews. She was the sister of the late Carl A. Gerden.

The family would like to thank the staff at Whitney Place in Westborough, Dr. Daniel Massierelli, and the SICU at Memorial Hospital for the care and compassion given to Helen.

Her funeral service will be held Saturday, Dec. 3, at 10 a.m., in the Rand-Harper-Pickering Westborough Funeral Home, 62 West Main St., Westborough. Burial will follow in Pine Grove Cemetery. A calling hour will precede the funeral service from 9 to 10 a.m. at the funeral home.
