Sudbury – Debbie Dineen and John Sklenak share not only a gallery space for the next few months, but a desire to capture on film what is unique about their seemingly ordinary subjects. Their work is on exhibit through the end of December at the Wayside Inn Gallery in Sudbury, located on the second floor of Longfellow's Wayside Inn and open daily from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m.

An exhibition and display space for the last nine years, the Gallery has featured the work of over 50 local artists since its inception, but will close for good Dec. 31. All art work is for sale, benefiting the non-profit Wayside Inn Historic Site.

Sklenak's passion for photography stems from a appreciation of the outdoors, and the creatures that inhabit it. As a retired engineer, he applies years of studied precision to his craft, but at the same time approaches his subjects with a certain intuitiveness and spontaneity in order to capture the essence of what makes them unique, adjusting his compositions to show the viewer what is different about his particular way of looking at things. “Kayaks at Rest” illustrates Sklenak's singular vantage point, emphasizing the play of color, contrast and shape.

Dineen has been captivated by the medium since early childhood, with

fond memories of her grandfather's popping flash bulbs as well as the novelty of Polaroid's instant-print cameras. The “structured design” as well as the unpredictability of nature are favorite themes, and are what draws Dineen to her subjects. Interpreting the linear elements of nature and light inspire her to create such images as “Sudbury River Fog,” notable for its somber but eloquent depiction of a particularly fleeting moment in time.

Longfellow's Wayside Inn is located at 72 Wayside Inn Rd. in Sudbury. Admission to the exhibit and all of the Wayside Inn's displays are free of change. For more information, call 1-9780-443-1776 or e-mail [email protected].
