Region – When a child must go into a foster care situation, it can be traumatic on so many different levels. And when they have nothing but a plastic bag to hold their belongings, as is so often the case, it can make a stressful situation even sadder.
That's why two local Realtors – Keller Williams Realty Westborough and Keller Williams Realty Worcester – have teamed up this holiday season to help collect gently used duffel bags and suitcases which they will then donate to children in foster care. By doing so, not only will the kids then have something sturdy to hold their possessons, they will also get a bit of their dignity back.
The two offices are asking for donations of gently used duffel bags, book bags and small suitcases as part of the “Suitcase Project”. The bags will then be donated to Y.O.U. Inc. of Worcester and a local MetroWest “foster care” facility.
Other requested items, which will be put into the bags are: toiletries, (travel size), hair accessories, nail polish and acessories, hats, mittens, and scarves, kids” pajamas, board games, puzzles, books and crafts and small toys.
Jennifer Juliano, one of the Keller Williams Realty Westborough organizers said, the response thus far as been very positive.
“Even if someone donated $10, that can go a long way at the Dollar Store to help us fill the bags,” she added.
To donate any items, contact Jennifer Juliano at [email protected] or Michele Miller at [email protected]. Donations are requested by Dec. 8.
