Marlborough – The Colonial Garden Club of Marlborough will kick off the holidays with the 33rd Annual Pear Tree Boutique Saturday, Dec. 3, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., at the Whitcomb Middle School on Union Street in Marlborough. The popular event features original, hand-crafted creations by talented club members and is the perfect place to select one-of-a-kind items for someone special or yourself.

The Pear Tree Boutique is a fund-raising tradition that supports the club's many philanthropic activities, including its scholarship program and city beautification efforts. Club members have been working overtime to create a huge assortment of beautiful fresh green arrangements, wreaths, kissing balls, mantel pieces, gift baskets, hand-made ornaments, and much more. The 2011 event is shaping up to be the biggest and most creative boutique yet.

As always, shoppers will find a wide array of fresh baked cookies and holiday treats available for purchase. For hungry shoppers or those looking for a chance to relax, the Pear Tree Boutique will have a luncheon menu that includes homemade soup, sandwiches, apple crisp, and more.

Founded in 1959, the Colonial Garden Club is dedicated to supporting the beautification and conservation efforts in the city. Among the many ways it serves Marlborough, the club maintains gardens across the city, sponsors scholarships through the Citizens Scholarship Foundation, and offers grants to students and teachers for horticultural education.

The club holds regular meetings on the second Wednesday of the month from September through June, at 7 p.m., at the Jaworek Elementary School, 44 Hosmer St., Marlborough. Prospective members are always welcome to attend. For more information, visit www.colonialgardenclub.org.
