Northborough/Southborough– Wrestling was a sport offered at
Algonquin Regional High School (ARHS) back in the “70s and “80s, but was dropped in 1989 after interest in it waned. With the help of parent Gordy Wrin the program was brought back in 2005 as a “club team.” Ever year since then, ARHS has maintained a competitive varsity team.
Because the wrestling program is still relatively new, there are many items that team members have on their “wish” list. Unfortunately, the athletic department does not have the funds to fulfill these needs. So, “as one way to raise dough,” the wrestlers and their supporters have organized a pizza fund-raiser to be held at Westborough's Uno Pizzeria, 225 Turnpike Road, Sunday, Dec. 11.
According to Beth Mazzola of the ARHS Westling Boosters, the team is looking to purchase a new time clock, banners to hang in the wrestling room to commemorate the success of past wrestlers, a podium for hosting large tournaments and a display case for announcements.
Patrons must use the coupon available on the wrestling team website at www.arhswrestling.com in order for the group to get a percentage of the sale.
