Hudson – Albert F. “Shorty” Shortsleeves Jr., 83, a life long resident of Hudson, died Saturday, Dec. 17, 2011 at Kindred Transitional Care and Rehabilitation of Marlborough. He leaves his beloved wife of 58 years, Phyllis (Christensen) Shortsleeves of Hudson.
Born in Clinton and raised in Hudson, son of the late Albert F. Shortsleeves Sr. and Eunice (Stone) Shortsleeves, he attended local schools and was a 1946 graduate of Hudson High School. He was a veteran of World War II, serving with the U.S. Army stationed in Germany.
Mr. Shortsleeves was employed as a surveyor for 30-plus years by several local companies and later was employed by Skinners Auctioneers in Bolton in charge of building and grounds maintenance for 20 years until his retirement.
He and his wife Phyllis both enjoyed square dancing. He was a member and past president of the Hickory Hills Square Dance Club of Hudson and also a member and past president of the Bay Path Barn Square Dance Club of Boylston. He enjoyed camping and fishing with family and friends and also looked forward to his frequent trips piloting small aircraft out of Marlborough Airport.
Besides his wife, he is survived by his two children, John A. Shortsleeves and his wife Kathleen of Fitchburg and Mary Ellen Tobin of Brewster. He is also survived by his three grandchildren, Daniel Tobin Jr. of Marlborough and Kelley and Emily Shortsleeves of Fitchburg.
A funeral service will be held Wednesday, Dec. 21, at 11 a.m., at the Tighe-Hamilton Funeral Home, Inc., 50 Central St., Hudson. Burial will follow at Saint Michael's Cemetery in Hudson. Calling hours will be held Tuesday, Dec. 20, from 5 to 8 p.m., in the funeral home.
