Laurene Aldorisio's Academy of Dance Expressions brings holiday cheer

In the true spirit of the holiday season, 40 dancers ranging in age from 3 years to adult have volunteered to perform at the Westborough and Northborough senior centers and the Northborough and Westborough Beaumont Skilled Nursing and Rehabilitation centers. Under the auspices of studio owner and director Laurene Aldorisio and community outreach co-coordinator and dance coach Sue Savage, the spirit of community service and the joy of giving back to the community have been the philosophy and theme of this dance season and the foundation of the newly formed Performance Group. Culinary Underground holds “Kids Cook: Candy Science” Dec. 29

Mix a little learning with some fun eats! Sign your 8- to 11-year-old up for a vacation week workshop held Thursday, Dec. 29, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., with the chefs at Culinary Underground School for Home Cooks in Southborough. “Kids Cook: Candy Science” will let them be a candy chemist and put their science and math skills to work in this class on all things sugar. Students will learn the hows and whys of true chocolate fudge, brittles and mohjy, and hand-dipped chocolates. Some healthy savory treats also will be provided for students to eat while they work. Scentsibilities announces winter hours

Scentsibilities, an herb and aromatherapy shop located at 750 Main St. in Boylston, will start its winter hours in January and be open on Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays only, from 12 to 5 p.m., during the month.

During its annual convention last month, Arpin Van Lines honored prime agent Mark's Moving & Storage, Inc. in Westborough with the 2011 Humanitarian Award. Marlborough Hospital announces new patient safety officer

Karen O. Moore, president and CEO of Marlborough Hospital, has announced the newest member of the hospital's management team, Nancy L. Manchester, who has been hired to serve as the hospital's new patient safety officer. In her new role with Marlborough Hospital, Manchester will plan, develop and oversee patient safety and relations, performance improvement, risk management and regulatory compliance. “We are very pleased to have someone with Nancy's credentials join the Marlborough Hospital team,” said Moore. “This new position gives us the opportunity to build on the hospital's commitment and focus on quality and safety and take the hospital to a new level in achieving excellence in these areas.”
