Thomas M. Stanhope, 87Marlborough – Thomas M. Stanhope, 87, died Monday, Jan. 9, 2012 at Marlborough Hospital.

Born in St. Stephens, NB, Canada, he was the son of the late Joseph E. and Elsie (Cotter) Stanhope, and the husband of the late Phyllis A. (Nobile) Stanhope, who died in 2011. A veteran of World War II, he served with the U.S. Navy Seabees.

Mr. Stanhope had been employed for many years at the former Bay State Abrasives in Westborough as a foreman. For the past 28 years, he had been the manager of Bunker Self Storage in Marlborough.

A member of St. Matthias Parish in Marlborough and a former member of the Maynard Elks, he and his late wife were accomplished ballroom dancers, who loved to travel and spend time with family and friends.

He is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Raymond and Marilyn Gilbert of Hudson; his grandchildren, Joellen Adams, and Peter and Christopher Gilbert; six great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. He was also the brother of the late Lloyd Stanhope.

A funeral Mass will be celebrated Friday, Jan. 13, at 10 a.m., at St. Matthias Church, 409 Hemenway St., Marlborough. Burial will follow at Evergreen Cemetery, Wilson Street, Marlborough. Visiting hours will be held Thursday, Jan. 12, from 4 to 7 p.m., at the Slattery Funeral Home, 40 Pleasant St., Marlborough.
