Shrewsbury– Shrewsbury Youth and Family Services, Inc. (SYFS), the town of Shrewsbury's only private, nonprofit community counseling and social services agency, has announced the 2012 winners of its Outstanding Youth of Shrewsbury Awards. The awards will be presented at SYFS's 8th Annual Gala and Awards Dinner to four outstanding Shrewsbury youths for their service and accomplishments, explained SYFS Executive Director Jeffrey K. Chin. The Community Advocate is the media sponsor of the event.

From a diverse and deep pool of applicants, this year's winners are Romaine Campbell, Grade 12, Shrewsbury High School; Kelsey Giordano, Grade 12, Shrewsbury High School; Kevin Harrington, Grade 11, St. John's High School; and Hannah Levine, Grade 12, Shrewsbury High School.

These individuals will be honored at the Annual Gala and Awards Dinner to be held Saturday, Feb. 11, from 6 to11 p.m. at St. John's High School in Shrewsbury.

The awards are given annually to four local teenagers who demonstrate outstanding community service. Youths who have demonstrated remarkable resiliency in performing community service were given special consideration.

The event will celebrate community spirit and will be raising funds to support SYFS programs for local children and families. The night will feature a cocktail reception with live music and a silent auction, a gourmet dinner by Peppers Catering, the awards presentation, and a live grand drawing – all beginning at 6 p.m. Tickets are $85 (tax deductible) and can be purchased from SYFS over the phone at 508-845-6932 with a credit card, or at SYFS, 240 Maple Ave., Shrewsbury, in person with cash, check or credit card. Space is limited.

In addition, tickets for the Grand Drawing are also available at the SYFS office. The Grand Prize is a pair of diamond “inside out” hoop earrings valued at over $2,500. Grand Prize tickets are $20 each.

Shrewsbury resident Maureen Harrington is the event chair. Anyone interested in sponsorship or volunteer opportunities for the gala can contact SYFS at 508-845-6932 or visit www.syfs-ma.org or email [email protected].
