Leo R. Ginga, 88Worcester – Leo R. Ginga, 88, passed away peacefully Tuesday, Jan. 18, 2012 in Memorial Hospital after a brief illness.

Born June 25, 1923 in Fayville, a son of Ercole and Elizabeth (Dellacastanza) Ginga, he graduated from high school and joined the U.S. Army to serve his country during World War II in the Asiatic, Pacific Theatre. He had lived in the Worcester area for more than 50 years.

He is survived by his devoted wife of 54 years, Dolores D. (Leclair) Ginga; his four children, Richard Ginga and his wife Etta of Charlton, Elizabeth Ginga of Jamaica Plain, Marie Ginga of Corrales, N.M., and Donna Ginga and her partner Alicia Stewart of Northampton; three cherished grandchildren, Maya, Corin, and Jacob; a sister-in-law, Bea Ginga; and many nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends. He was predeceased by Rollo Genga, Henry Ginga and Mary Randall.

Mr. Ginga worked in the manufacturing industry all his life. He began working for G.E. Telecron beside his wife, and then for Worcester Molded Plastics and Springfield Molding in Monson before retiring.

He was a member of St. Joan of Arc Church, the VFW Post 6907 in West Boylston, and the Greendale Retired Men's Club. He was an avid golfer and bowler enjoying playing the sports with his retired friends. Most of all, his family was his life's interest and he cherished the times he could spend with them and in their company.

Friends and relatives are invited to visit with the family Friday, Jan. 20, from 4 to 7 p.m., in the Mercadante Funeral Home & Chapel, 370 Plantation St., Worcester. His funeral will be held Saturday, Jan. 21 from the funeral home with a Mass at 10 a.m. in St Joan of Arc Church, 570 Lincoln St. Burial with military honors will follow in Rural Cemetery of Southborough.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the St Joan of Arc Building fund, 570 Lincoln St., Worcester, MA 01605.
