Shrewsbury – The Friends of the Shrewsbury Public Library have announced that the Third Annual Foreign Film Festival will be held Sunday afternoons in February.
The Picture Bride will be shown Sunday, Feb. 5. In this 1994 Japanese film, a young Japanese woman tries to leave behind her unhappy past by traveling to Hawaii in the early 1900s as a picture bride. The film is rated PG and is 110 minutes long. Please Note: the showing of the Picture Bride has been moved to March 4.
Mongol, a 2007 Kazakhstanian film, will be shown Sunday, Feb. 12. Mongol is the personal portrait of the man who would be known as Genghis Khan and his extraordinary bond with the woman he chose to be his wife when he was 9 years old. Rated R, the movie is 126 minutes.
Wasabi, a 2004 Japanese movie, will be presented Sunday, Feb. 19. A cop with a penchant for punching out people is called to Japan. The love of his life – who walked out on him 19 years ago – has died and left him a fortune, a daughter he never knew about, and platoon of hit men on his trail. The 94-minute movie is rated R.
Finally, the 1935 German film Triumph of the Will will conclude the Foreign Film Series Sunday, Feb. 26. This infamous documentary on Hitler's 1934 Nuremberg Rallies is regarded as the greatest propaganda film of all time. Unrated, it is 110 minutes long.
All the films will be shown at 2 p.m. and opportunities will be provided for discussion after the film for those who wish to stay. Popcorn will be provided, but please bring your own beverage.
