Northborough – The town of Northborough has been honored by a municipal association for its 2011 Annual Report, Town Administrator John Coderre revealed at the Jan. 23 Board of Selectmen meeting.
The town's report won first place during the Massachusetts Municipal Association's (MMA) 2012 Annual Meeting and Trade Show Jan. 21. Hopkinton and Chelmsford came in second and third place respectively. The last time the town won an award from the MMA for its Annual Report was in 2001, when the 2000 report tied for third with Sudbury.
Coderre said that the town should be particularly proud of this award, as Northborough competes against much larger and better-funded communities.
The MMA ranks the report by examining appearance, presentation of data, evidence of planning for the future of the community, and the practical utility of the document to the public. Board of Selectmen Chair Jeff Amberson said that the report “tells the story of what's going on in town,” and emphasized its importance in promoting transparency in local government.
Copies of the report, which also functions as a 2012 calendar, are available at Town Hall.
