Marlborough – The Friends of the Marlborough Public Library and the Assabet Valley Camera Club (AVCC) are gearing up for their 17th annual photography show.
Area photographers who would like to participate may submit two photographs in black and white or color. All photos must be framed and/or matted and equipped with wire suitable for display hanging. Also, each photo must have a label affixed to the back showing the title, name of artist, address, phone number and purchase price if for sale. If sold, 15 percent of the purchase price will go to the Friends.
The entry fee for submissions is $8 for one or two photographs. Entry forms available at area libraries or go online to the websites at: assabetvalleycameraclub.org or mpl-friends.org. Fees and photographs should be delivered to the Library's Bigelow Auditorium Thursday, Feb. 2,from 4 to 7:30 p.m. or Friday, Feb. 3, from 2 to 4:30 p.m.
The gallery of photographs will be open for viewing from Monday, Feb. 6, through Sunday, Feb. 12, with the following schedule: Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday from 12 to 8 p.m., Monday, Friday and Saturday from 12 to 4:30 p.m., and Sunday 1 to 4 p.m. Entry is free.
Judging will take place Saturday, Feb. 4, by a panel of judges selected by the AVCC. A Reception and Open House will be held Feb 6 from 6 to 8 p.m. in the Library's Bigelow Auditorium. Refreshments will be served. Local pianist Kim, who has played music for the Hudson Arts Alliance and was recommended by Jan Patterson, will play background music during the Reception and Open House as well as Monday evenings from 6 to 8 p.m.
Awards will be presented for First, Second and Third Place Prizes plus three Honorable Mentions and Popular Vote awards (chosen by visitors to the gallery) in both color and black-and-white. The award presentations will take place at 7 p.m. in the gallery.
Proceeds from the entry fees go into the general funds of the Friends of the Marlborough Public Library to help support all of the free programs the organization sponsors each season, which runs from June 1 thru May 31 each year.
Jim Nims is the Friends photography chair on the Friends Executive Committee for the event; Co-chairs are Todd and Maureen Mathieson from the AVCC.
