Michael Soter, 82Shrewsbury – Michael Soter, 82, formerly of Worcester, passed away Tuesday, Jan. 31, 2012 at the University of Massachusetts Medical Center, following a period of declining health. His wife, Mafalda (Barbato) Soter, passed away in 1990.

He is survived by his sister, Violet Assad of Shrewsbury, and many nieces and nephews, great and great great nieces and nephews, extended family and friends. He was also predeceased by his siblings, Katherine Argir, Mary Zhunga and Samuel Soter.

Born in Worcester, the son of Dimitri and Arthimisia (Nickola) Soter, he graduated from Commerce High School, joined the Massachusetts Army National Guard, and was dicharged as a Master Sergeant. He lived in Worcester most of his life before moving to Shrewsbury 22 years ago.

Mr. Soter worked as an electrician for the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Union Local 96 over 40 years before retiring as a project supervisor. Notably, he oversaw the electrical construction of the University of Massachusetts Medical Center among other construction projects in the Worcester area and throughout the state.

He was a lifelong devoted member of St. Mary's Assumption Albanian Church and their Men's Club. He was an active member of the Greendale YMCA, where he could be found daily joking around and enjoying the company of the many friends he socialized and worked out with. He and his wife enjoyed traveling and spending time on Cape Cod and Florida. He was known for his great sense of humor and wit and will be greatly missed by his family and friends.

His funeral will be held Saturday, Feb. 4 from the Mercadante Funeral Home & Chapel, 370 Plantation St., Worcester, with a 10 a.m. service at St. Mary's Assumption Albanian Church, 535 Salisbury St, Worcester. Entombment will follow at Worcester County Memorial Park in Paxton. Friends and relatives are invited to visit with the family Friday, Feb. 3, from 4 to 7 p.m., at the funeral home. A Trisagion service will be celebrated at 6 p.m.
