John J. Tynan, 78Marlborough – John J. Tynan, 78, died Friday, Feb. 3, 2012 at Beaumont Rehabilitation and Skilled Nursing Center in Northborough. He had been married to his eighth-grade sweetheart, Mary (Fitzgerald) Tynan for 50 years until her death in 2006.

Born and raised in Marlborough, he was the son of the late Frank and Ruth M. (McLaughlin) Tynan. He graduated from Marlborough High School in 1952, where he was a member of the football and basketball teams. Following his discharge from the U.S. Navy in 1956, he served the city of Marlborough as a volunteer firefighter, and worked for Bonazolli Construction, Raytheon and Honeywell Corporations and Bay Networks, Billerica, retiring in 1994 as the coordinator of computer engineering.

Mr. Tynan often played poker with close friends on Friday nights and had a quick wit. His passion was his family, who have many happy memories of Onset, Ft. Meadow and Newport.

He is survived by his sons, Dave Tynan and Paul Tynan and his wife Lisa, all of Marlborough; his grandchildren, Jessica Goldsmith, Jamie Bishop, Jayne Tynan, and Shaun and Nora Tynan; and fou great-grandchildren, Shayne, Mia, Grayson, and Charlotte. He also leaves many beloved cousins in Massachusetts, Ohio and Maine.

A funeral Mass will be celebrated Friday, Feb. 10, at 9 a.m., at the Immaculate Conception Church, 11 Prospect St., Marlborough. Burial will follow at St. John's Cemetery of Clinton. Visiting hours will be held Thursday, Feb. 9, from 5 to 7 p.m., at the Slattery Funeral Home, 40 Pleasant St., Marlborough.
