Shrewsbury – Santa R. (DeCaro) Simone, 104, passed away peacefully Monday, Feb. 6, 2012 after a period of declining health. Her husband, Anthony Simone, passed away in 1988.
Born July 28, 1907 in Worcester, a daughter of Cosmo and Virginia (Cozzolino) DeCaro, she graduated from Worcester Public Schools and attended Becker Junior College. She grew up in Worcester and had lived in Shrewsbury since 1940.
She is survived by her devoted son, Richard Simone of Shrewsbury; her three adoring grandchildren, Steven Simone, Sandra Pedersen, and Jane Nolle; seven great-grandchildren; a sister, Ruth Boudreau of Worcester; and many nieces, nephews, and extended family. Two sons, Charles and Don F Simone; a grandson, Don F Simone; four brothers, Charles, Frank, Joseph, and Sam DeCaro; and three sisters, Helen Forand, Rose and Dorothy Morano, all predeceased her.
Mrs. Simone worked her whole life. She began by being legal secretary for lawyers in Worcester. She then owned and operated a children's and women's clothing specialty shop. Joining with son Richard, she operated Sim's Café on Main Street in Worcester. After retirement, she would serve as a nanny for a couple of physicians in Worcester.
She was a member of St Anne's Church. She found enjoyment in always being busy with her family. Her Italian culture, soft smile, and sense of humor were her greatest attributes. She will be sorely missed.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, Feb. 8 from the Mercadante Funeral Home & Chapel, 370 Plantation St., Worcester, with a Mass at 11:30 a.m. in St Anne's Church, 130 Boston Turnpike Rd. Burial with her husband and son will follow in St John's Cemetery. Friends and relatives are invited to a period of visitation from 9:30 to 11 a.m. in the funeral home prior to leaving for church.
