Thomas J. Slyman, 73Shrewsbury – Thomas J. Slyman, 73, passed away Tuesday, Feb. 7, 2012 in UMass Hospital.

He is survived by his loving sister, Rosemary Nolle and her husband David, who lived next door to Tom; a nephew, Peter Nolle and his wife Nikole of Worcester; a niece, Jennifer Hill and her husband Michael, both of Worcester; four great-nephews; and many cousins. He was predeceased by his sister, Eva Baril.

Born in Kansas City, Missouri, son of the late Peter R. and Emma C. (Russell) Slyman, he grew up in Shrewsbury, graduated from Shrewsbury High School and attended Notre Dame University.

Mr. Slyman worked in retail sales for many years before retiring. He had also worked as a bartender at the former Driftwood Restaurant in Shrewsbury, and worked with his father at the family service station. He was a member of Saint Anne's church, the Alumni Association of Notre Dame University and the Shrewsbury Knights of Columbus.

He enjoyed music and had hosted a radio show on the Clark University Radio Station, and had one time managed a local band. He loved all kinds of sports and was an avid golfer. His favorite teams were the Boston Celtics, the Saint Louis Cardinals, the Green Bay Packers and, of course, any team at Notre Dame University.

Mr. Slyman's family would like to thank the nurses and aides from 3 West at UMass Hospital for their continued care and support of him and his family.

Calling hours for will be held Friday, Feb. 10, from 4 to 7 p.m., in the Mercadante Funeral Home & Chapel, 370 Plantation St., Worcester. His Funeral will be held Saturday, Feb. 11, from the funeral home with a Mass at 11:30 a.m. in Saint Anne Church, 130 Boston Tpke. (Route 9), Shrewsbury. Interment will follow in Mountain View Cemetery of Shrewsbury.
