Shrewsbury – At the Board of Selectmen meeting Feb. 7, Town Manager Dan Morgado said he was not prepared to offer a specific course of action on a library renovation project due to the fact that the Massachusetts Board of Library Commissioners (MBLC) has not yet released a funding award for the town.
On Oct. 18, 2011, Shrewsbury voters, by a small margin, denied the authorization of bonds that would have partially funded a new public library. On Oct. 25, 2011, the selectmen requested that Morgado provide them with options on how best to proceed in the wake of the special election result.
Morgado said he recently met with library officials, who agreed to a 10 percent reduction in the square footage of the original project.
Morgado also said that the town would continue to provide for the general maintenance of the current library facility, but would not spend any money on improvements that would ultimately be destroyed in a renovation project.
