Southborough – It hardly feels like winter with leaves still covering the ground

and no sign that snow is coming anytime soon. Still, the early morning winter sunrise at Chestnut Hill Farm reminds us that the beauty of daybreak is breathtaking regardless of the season.

Chestnut Hill Farm is a cooperative conservation project nestled on the hills of Chestnut Hill Road just off route 30 in Southborough. The working farm boasts miles of walking trails past meadows and pastures prime for grassland bird watching, through fields of hay and alfalfa and along freshwater wetlands. Printed trail maps are distributed free from the bulletin board in the parking area.

According to the group's website, “In 2006, townspeople in Southborough overwhelmingly voted to purchase a conservation restriction on the unprotected portions of Chestnut Hill Farm. It is thanks to this vision and to the generosity of the Beals family that the Trustees are able to take over the care and protection of this community treasure today.”

Visitor Information: dog walking, horseback riding, mountain biking, all-terrain vehicles, and hunting are prohibited on the reservation. Admission is free.
