Historical Society to present “Stories from the Attic”Marlborough – Since the beginning of time, knowledge and stories were passed on through oral traditions. If you had a question about life, love or why the grass is green, there was always someone you could ask. Nowadays when people have a question, they turn to the Internet. The Marlborough Historical Society wants to take residents back to a time when the best ideas and memories were passed on through stories.

Recognizing that Marlborough is a community steeped in history and with pride in its past, the Historical Society is inviting the public to the share their memories Tuesday, Feb. 28 at 7 p.m. Peggy Schwarz Ayres, program director for the society, wants the public to attend.

“Everyone has a story to tell, and this is a great opportunity to do just that,” Ayres said. “Rather than us presenting Marlborough history to the public, this is an opportunity for the public to present their history.”

During this informal discussion, a leader will help prompt the participants to enlighten the audience with tales of the people, places, things, disasters or sports that make Marlborough special. Some suggested topics are: How has your neighborhood changed? How has downtown changed? How did your family celebrate the holidays? Discuss a decorated service member, praise a teacher who inspired or talk about your teenage hangout.

The topic is entirely up to the participants: It's okay to read remarks or give comments off the cuff. Those who are not public speakers can nod along with the narrators or just listen. It will be a time for people of all ages to reminisce and contribute to history and life experiences.

The event will be held by the fire in the intimate setting of the Peter Rice Homestead located at 377 Elm St. The event is free, open to the public and includes refreshments.
