Shrewsbury – Nancy P. Lewis Hewins, 94, passed away peacefully Thursday, March 8, 2012 at the Shrewsbury Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. She was the wife of the late Gilbert Hewins, who died in 1998. Her first husband, Walton P. Lewis, died in 1983.

Born in Worcester, she was the daughter of the late Howard and Helen (Pearson) Chace. She was a 1934 graduate of Worcester South High School and also graduated from the Peabody College for Women in Nashville, Tenn.

She was employed as a substitute teacher for the public school system in Moorestown, N.J. In later years, she worked as an occupational therapist at the Meadows Nursing Home in Framingham and gave piano lessons.

After her retirement, she played in a band called “Old Kids On The Block,” entertaining residents of nursing homes. She was also a member of Street Car Company Theater Group in New Hampshire and enjoyed sewing and crafts.

She is survived by two daughters, Judith Rameior of Needham and Betty Lewis of Westborough; a step-son, Donald Latham of Atkinson, N.H.; and a step-daughter, Deborah Snyder of Stockton Springs, Maine.

Private burial in Hope Cemetery of Worcester will take place at a later date. The Rand-Harper-Pickering Westborough Funeral Home is assisting with arrangements.
