Marlborough – Frances (Cordima) Fitzgerald, 96, died Tuesday, March 13, 2012 at Kindred Transitional Care and Rehabilitation Center after a long illness. She was the wife of William B. Fitzgerald, who died in 1993. Her first husband, Robert E. Sofrin, died in 1943.
Born, raised and educated in Boston, she was the daughter of the late Candeloro and Maria (Nunnari) Cordima. She was a member of St. Matthias Church and was an avid reader who enjoyed embroidery, sewing and cooking.
She leaves three daughters, Linda L. McCabe of Marlborough, Theresa Carroll of Braintree, and Faith Spinney of Lowell; a sister, Dominica Sofrin of Webster; 12 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and many nephews and nieces. She was the sister of the late Peter, Anthony, Frank and Joseph A. Cordima and Lea Grosse and Carmela Bonanno. She was the mother of the late Kevin W. Fitzgerald, who died in 1993.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Friday, March 16, at 10 a.m., in St. Matthias Church on Hemenway Street, Marlborough. Burial will follow in Evergreen Cemetery, Wilson Street. Calling hours will be held Thursday, March 15, from 4 to 8 p.m., in the Fitzgerald & Collins Funeral Home, 378 Lincoln St., Marlborough.
